HVAC Recruiters in Miami, FL

South Florida has the largest HVAC workforce in the state, about 9,140 techs, and pays them $3.60 an hour more than Tampa at the median. Miami-area HVAC searches add a layer other markets skip: hurricane-zone install rules in Miami-Dade and Broward.

Median pay for HVAC techs in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro: $27.90/hr ($58,040/yr), against $27.24/hr statewide, per BLS occupational wage data, May 2025. Page reviewed October 29, 2026.

The Miami HVAC talent market

The BLS counted about 9,140 HVAC mechanics and installers in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro in May 2025, earning a median of $27.90 an hour ($58,040 a year), against $24.30 in Tampa and $27.24 for Florida. BLS QCEW counted 2,306 residential plumbing and HVAC contractor locations in the metro in mid-2025, employing 15,055 people, and 491 commercial ones employing 9,706.

The work runs on old equipment and year-round heat. With Miami-Dade and Broward housing built around 1980 at the median, a large share of systems are on their second or third replacement, and replacement sales skill is worth as much as diagnostics. Two FRACCA chapters cover the area: the South Florida Air Conditioning Contractors Association for Broward and Miami-Dade, and the Air Conditioning Contractors Association of Palm Beach.

How we fill HVAC seats in South Florida

We source county by county, because a Hialeah tech and a Boca Raton tech live in different hiring markets even inside one metro. Each candidate has EPA 608 confirmed, goes through a scored phone interview on diagnostics, replacement sales, and after-hours availability, and clears the background and driving checks you set. Installer candidates are also asked about HVHZ tie-down and product approval experience.

Submittals include pay expectations against the $27.90 local median, language ability where volunteered, and the commute. Every placement carries a 90-day replacement guarantee.

What does the hurricane zone change for an HVAC installer?

Miami-Dade and Broward installs run through product approval. Equipment and tie-down systems with a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance meet the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone requirements, designed for winds up to 175 miles per hour, and NOA 25-1201.08, for example, approves outdoor condensing units with steel tie-down clips for at-grade and rooftop applications. An installer who has worked only in Tampa or Orlando has to learn which approvals apply and how inspectors check them.

That is why we treat HVHZ experience as its own line on installer submittals. It shortens a new hire’s ramp-up and reduces failed inspections.

How many HVAC employers compete in South Florida?

More than anywhere else in Florida. The metro’s 2,306 residential plumbing and HVAC contractor locations paid an average of $1,174 a week across all employees in the second quarter of 2025, and its 491 commercial plumbing and HVAC locations paid $1,457, per BLS QCEW. BLS counts HVAC and plumbing together, so the HVAC-only figure is a subset, but no other Florida metro comes close in employer count. A South Florida tech with a clean record has many options, and your offer is one of them.

Should a South Florida shop hire bilingual HVAC techs?

If your customers speak Spanish, a bilingual tech closes more of them. Two-thirds of Miami-Dade residents age 5 and older speak Spanish at home, and a third speak English less than "very well," per the 2024 American Community Survey. We surface language ability on every submittal where a candidate volunteers it and recruit for it when you ask; we never screen candidates out on it.
