Plumbing Recruiters in Miami, FL

South Florida plumbers earn a median of $27.77 an hour, well above Tampa, and work on the oldest housing of any big Florida metro. Miami-Dade also publishes a journeyman-to-trainee ratio for permitted plumbing jobs, which shapes how shops staff crews.

Median pay for plumbers in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro: $27.77/hr ($57,760/yr), against $25.44/hr statewide, per BLS occupational wage data, May 2025. Page reviewed October 29, 2026.

The Miami plumbing talent market

About 5,930 plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters worked in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro in May 2025, earning a median of $27.77 an hour ($57,760 a year), against $25.00 in Tampa and $25.44 for Florida, per BLS. A Miami offer built on Tampa numbers will not hold an experienced service plumber.

The housing makes the demand. In Miami-Dade, 64.6% of homes were built before 1990, and the median home dates from 1980, the same as Broward. Galvanized and cast-iron systems from that era drive repipes, drain replacements, water heater changeouts, and slab leak repairs, and the plumbers who can quote and close that work in an occupied home are the scarcest profile in the region.

How we fill plumbing seats in South Florida

South Florida plumbing searches start with two questions: which county your trucks work, and whether you need journeymen to meet Miami-Dade’s crew ratio. From there we contact plumbers already working that county and that kind of job, and every name we send has its Miami-Dade or Broward certificate status, scored interview results, and background and driving check outcomes attached.

Pay is the other early conversation. With a local median of $27.77 an hour, a band set from older numbers or from another metro will miss, and you will hear that from us on the first call rather than after weeks of silence. Every placement carries a 90-day replacement guarantee.

What is Miami-Dade’s journeyman ratio for plumbing jobs?

Miami-Dade’s plumbing license page states that there must be at least one journeyman for every three trainees on each construction or installation job site that requires a permit and involves a journeyman trade, and that work on a site without the required journeymen will be stopped until they are provided. The county’s journeyman certificate requires three years of proven experience (up to half of it may be education), a 75% exam score, and a $240 fee, and it does not allow the holder to work as a contractor (Miami-Dade).

For a shop, the ratio means carded journeymen are a staffing constraint, not just a credential. We record journeyman status on every plumbing submittal.

Does Broward issue journeyman plumber certificates?

Yes. Broward’s Central Examining Board of Construction Trades issues journeyman certificates, and its current contractor information packet requires at least four years of practical plumbing experience for a plumbing journeyman (Broward County). Under [section 489.1455](http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0400-0499/0489/Sections/0489.1455.html), a journeyman plumbing card from any Florida county or city must also be recognized in Broward and Miami-Dade.

How many plumbing employers are in South Florida?

BLS QCEW counted 2,306 residential plumbing and HVAC contractor locations in the metro in the second quarter of 2025, employing 15,055 people, and 491 commercial locations employing 9,706. Plumbing shares that BLS category with HVAC, so plumbing alone is a subset. Even so, a plumber with a good service record has more potential employers here than anywhere else in Florida, which is why South Florida plumbing searches are won on specifics: the board, the commission plan, and the drive.

Plumbing Recruiters in Miami: common questions

How much do plumbers make in Miami?

The Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach plumber median was $27.77 an hour ($57,760 a year) in May 2025, per BLS, well above Tampa’s $25.00 and the Florida median of $25.44.

Why is there so much repipe work in South Florida?

The housing is old. The median home in Miami-Dade and Broward was built in 1980, and 64.6% of Miami-Dade homes predate 1990, per ACS 2020-2024 estimates, so many still have original galvanized or cast-iron plumbing.
